When a business closes, there’s a long list of jobs: staff, stock, premises, accounts. Somewhere near the bottom sit the old server, the shared drives and the email accounts. Often they get wiped, recycled or simply switched off.
That can mean throwing away something with real value.
Why old records have value now
AI labs need real examples of how work gets done. Years of emails, quotes, drawings and job files are exactly that. A closed business can’t make new records, but the ones it has are finished, complete and often go back a long way.
Before anything is deleted
- Don’t wipe or recycle anything yet. Once a server is gone, it’s gone.
- Check what’s where. The office server, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, cloud drives, old laptops and backups.
- Keep cloud accounts open a little longer if you can. Many providers delete data soon after an account closes.
- Tell your adviser or insolvency practitioner. If one is involved, they decide what happens to company assets, records included.
- Describe it to us. A rough outline is enough: what the business did, how many years, and where the records are.
What happens next
If there’s a fit, we’ll tell you what we’d pay to buy the records outright, or what a licence could earn. Personal details are removed before anything leaves, and nothing moves until an agreement is signed.
If there isn’t a fit, we’ll say so. It won’t have cost you anything. Start with a free first look.
Got records you think might be worth something? A short description is enough for a free first look.
