Frequently asked questions.

Does it cost anything to ask?

No. The first look is free and there’s no upfront charge. Sending an enquiry doesn’t commit you to anything.

What happens after I enquire?

We read your description and reply within a week, usually with a straight answer or a few questions. Nothing goes further unless you want it to.

Do we have to share everything?

No. What’s in scope is agreed with you. Whole categories can stay out.

Who sees the records?

Only people agreed in writing. Any sample is shared only after rights, privacy and terms are agreed, through our private client portal.

How long does it take?

It varies with the records and the people who need to agree. We can’t promise a timescale.

When does payment happen?

There’s no upfront charge to you. If a deal goes ahead, when and how payment happens is set out in the written agreement.

Who owns the records afterwards?

It depends on whether it’s a licence or a sale. With a licence, you usually keep your records. This is agreed in writing for each deal.

What kinds of records are useful?

Everyday working records that show how work got done: quotes, emails, drawings, job files, tickets, chats and the links between them. See record types.

Do you take paper archives?

No. We deal with digital records only.

Can you tell me what my records are worth?

Not from an enquiry. Value depends on the records, their links, the rights behind them and what a buyer needs. Published figures from other companies are on market evidence.

Do I lose my records?

Not by enquiring. Whether a deal is a sale or a licence, and what you keep, is agreed in writing. See how licensing works.

What happens to personal details?

How personal and confidential information is handled is agreed case by case, in writing, before anything leaves. Sensitive data such as health or payment details is usually left out. See trust and rights.

My company is in liquidation. Who decides?

Usually the liquidator. See liquidation and the other insolvency guides.

My company has been dissolved. Can I still sell the records?

Usually not as a former director: the company’s assets pass to the Crown on dissolution. See dissolved companies.

My business is still trading. Can I enquire?

Yes. You can enquire while trading, selling or closing a business.

Should I send files?

No. Describe the records. Any sample is only arranged after rights, privacy and terms are agreed.

Where do you work?

The UK and the Republic of Ireland. See licensing records from Ireland.

Is there a guaranteed buyer or price?

No. We can’t promise a buyer, a price or a completed deal.

I’m an AI developer. How do I get in touch?

See for AI developers.

Can I refer a business?

Yes. See refer a business.
